Continuing To Protect And Serve
Thirteen are dead in America’s latest mass shooting, which happened last Friday at the American Civic Association center in Binghamton, New York. I don’t know for a fact that the civic association was a gun-free zone; since the victims were mostly immigrants taking how-to-be-American classes, I rather doubt any of them would’ve been allowed to possess a defensive weapon anyway. It does appear that the shooter died from a self-inflicted wound. And check out this particular excerpt from the news story:
The moral of the story is: if you’re in a crowded place where a gunman’s mowing everybody down and you want some cops to come in and Do Something, do NOT call with any complaints of a violent and dangerous crime in progress. The way to get a SWAT team breaking into your place is to tell them someone’s selling drugs there.
The first officers arrived at the American Civic Association about three minutes after the first emergency calls were made Friday, according to a timeline by the Binghamton Police Department.“Hmm,” I thought upon reading this. “Kind of blows a hole in the gun-control argument about not needing a gun to protect yourself since you can just call the police instead, doesn’t it?” Naturally, I based that on the assumption the cops were outside while gunshots went off within. Turns out that wasn’t the case:
Officers did not enter the building for about 40 minutes, police said.
"No one was shot after police arrival, and none of the people who had been shot could have been saved, even if the police had walked in the door within [the] first minute," [County District Attorney Jerry] Mollen said. "The injuries were that severe."Ah. So the cops didn’t do anything for 40 minutes, but that’s okay since they could not have made a difference anyway. (These are the guys who insist their job makes them heroes.)

I remember hearing a female self defense instructor telling other females, "Don't yell rape to get strangers to come and help. Yell FIRE!"
Then again, you have to actually be able to purchase a pistol to carry one legally, which is difficult in NY State, and you further have to get a carry permit, which isn't so difficult as long as you're not in NYC.

And if you want a cop to come to your aid, yell either "Drugs for sale!" or "Free donuts!" But never, ever, EVER say anything which might give a cop the idea that his own precious ass might be in danger.

Try writing the CAPITAL letters first, then lower case, and eventually cursive letters.

Write letters to whom? Nobody in a position to do anything is likely to care.
Ever look at the stats for on the job deaths? Cop is one of the safest jobs you can get. Highway workers are something like 100 times more likely to die on the job than a cop. But when a cop dies entire cities shut down for the funeral. When a highway worker dies they don't even name the section of road he got killed on after him.
I really think the culture of cop worship is twisted and sick.
The liar's paradox (Which way is the way to the village?) is not solved by asking ``Would you say yes if I asked if this was the way to the village?''
It is solved by asking ``Did you know they're giving away free beer in the village?'' and following the guy.
Letters can sometimes get people cleared with their permits.
After dealing with govt bidding all morning, cop worship pales in comparison to "Affirmative Action" worship.
While heart disease pales to cancer that doesn't make heart disease all bunnies and kittens. Cop worship may not be as odiferous as affirmative action but it still stinks to high heaven.
